Project Description

PROBLEM

To comply with regulatory standards and become proactive after a nationwide uptick in patient suicides, a health system needed to implement ligature risk deterrent measures in the inpatient behavioral health units of their facilities.

SOLUTION

DH Pace provided and installed patented proactive presence-detecting Top Door Alarm® systems at both the top and bottom of doors in the behavioral health units. Top Door Alarm is a presence detection and notification system that identifies potential self-harm when a door is used as a ligature point. As an additional precaution, the Company also installed ligature-resistant hardware and Division 10 specialties to reduce other points of contact patients could potentially use to commit self-harm. These included door handles, hinges, grab bars, handrails, and restroom equipment.

Through DH Pace installing Top Door Alarm systems, not only did the behavioral health facility become compliant with local and federal guidelines, but they also became a much safer place for patients and a more desirable place of employment.
